Today, Brian and Marie went for a walk with Daddy while Mommy was at a baby shower. We covered 1.7 miles, and went to the neighborhood park, the grocery store, and back home. We stopped at the store to pick up a snack, and Marie got to choose what we had: donuts and bananas!
Brian's day so far
Brian spent the morning grabbing his shirt and pulling it up to his mouth to eat it. Yum! We were treated to nonstop viewing of his delicious squishy belly. On the way home from the mall, he was playing with his octopus and saying “b-b-b-b-b-b-b”. At first I thought he was saying octopus, but then I realized of course he was saying blue. That’s my exceptional child!
Phbbbbt!
That’s right, Brian learned how to make raspberries the other day!
Messy Hesse
Ok – she had spaghetti sauce on her _eyelids_.
Party!
Brian and Marie went to William’s 3rd birthday party — William is one of the neighborhood kids. They had great fun. Food, friends, and toys galore. It is so nice to be in a neighborhood with such friendly neighbors.
After naps, Marie blew bubbles in the backyard while Dad cleaned up the tomato plants and did some yard maintenance. Brian was enthralled by the bubbles!
I Love the Beach
Marie had a lot of fun with her -uncooked rice in a tupperware- portable pretend beach. We got out her shovel, a bucket (cool whip container), some seashells, and some “sand”. She merrily scooped it and dumped it from bucket into tupperware and mostly on the floor. Cleanup took a while, but at least we didn’t have to drive over the bay bridge.
Life is Full
Sometimes there are days when the little girl finds the teabags in the pantry and empties them all over the place (“I squish it!”) and the baby falls out of his carseat at the gym and smacks his sweet head on the (thank goodness) padded floor. Then there are days where the little girl eats all of her nutritious lunch, the baby discovers the joys of riding facing front in the baby bjorn, and the two of them together smile and laugh and giggle over just a simple game of mommy saying “yayyyy”.
Oh wait – all of that happened this morning!
On the move…
Mr. Brian was laying on his quilt this morning, and… we came back to find him laying on his side! So, movement is definitely occurring. Oh, and this is a surprise not just because he’s just over 3 months old, but because (based on a bathroom scale weigh-in yesterday) weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 17 pounds!
Big Girl Bed
Marie is sleeping in her big girl bed now! We never even moved the crib over. We just put her to bed in her new room in her new bed (a mattress on the floor) and she screamed and cried and it was a long, horrible night. The next night there was just a little bit of protest and we all got some sleep and now she’s fine! Even for naps. The only issue is that the sun comes in her room in the morning and wakes her up around 7:00 – we were used to her sleeping until 8:30! Maybe that’s why she’s still taking her nap, though. She is the most excited that she can get to her sock drawer all by herself and pick out whatever socks she wants. She thinks we are ridiculous for folding the matching ones together. She prefers one navy and one yellow.
Hot Stuff
Marie got a tricyle today! It’s just her size and she knows exactly what to do – bottom on the seat, feet on the pedals, hands on the handlebars. We were trying it out in Toys R Us and she said “I need my helmet.” Thanks, Elmo and Dora! So she has a Pooh helmet and kneepads. We were practicing in the house after lunch. She still needs a little help with momentum, but she is starting to figure out how to steer and she is a very focused student! Plus she looks adorable.
Brian thinks he is hot stuff when we prop him up in the big cushy glider and he can “sit” by himself and look around.
