Marie took a nap today – she might nap once a week if she gets really tired – she was really tired! Anyway, that meant that she didn’t go to sleep when we put her in bed at 9:00 and kept coming downstairs. She said the reason she came downstairs was that her bones hurt and she needed to stay up for a couple minutes so they would feel better. She drank some milk and then curled up in the hammock to read her magazine. I took her back upstairs at 10:00, but she was downstairs again 15 minutes later because her wall calendar was scaring her. Well, it does have a big closeup of a grinning, upside down monkey on it. But it’s been there since Jan. 1! So I took it down and she snuggled up and I think will go to sleep now.
Binky
Well, it was kind of a fluke. She asked for it on Tuesday, asked for it and ended up going to sleep without it last night, and used it again tonight. I think she is nearing the actual giving it up point but it’s not quite here yet.
Binkyless
Tonight, Marie went to sleep without her binky. Didn’t ask for it, wasn’t offered it, didn’t need it. May have been a fluke, but we’ll take it!
observations of a 3-year-old
Marie is having triscuits for a snack – she said “Hey! These are the crackers with cracker splinters! But they don’t hurt you.”
Yes, and we had LOTS of fun in the snow. Whee!
Snow!
First snow of the winter yesterday… Just 2 inches, but enough to drag the kids around the yard on the sleds. Great fun was had by all. School is delayed today, meaning Marie’s preschool is cancelled–so more snow fun will be had today!
food fads
Marie is dipping her raw broccoli in her hot chocolate. Mmmmm!
Skunks
I never expected I would be called upon to share my vast knowledge of skunks. It finally happened. Tonight at bedtime Marie and I got on the subject of skunks and she knows a lot more than I though – she asked all kinds of questions. I think she saw a Diego episode where he saved a skunk or something. She said she wasn’t worried or afraid, she was just going to be thinking about it tonight in her dreams and if she got scared she would come and get me.
Vision Screening
Marie had her first ever vision screening test at preschool on Friday. She passed!
* We are happy to find that your child was able to see the line on the vision chart expected of this age.
and
* Child showed no evidence of muscle imbalance (cross-eye).
Here’s hoping she’s different from her dad in this respect!
the Muffin Man
Brian has a little bit of a cold today. We were reading books before naptime, and he became obsessed with the muffin man song in one of his nursery rhyme books – we sang it maybe 12 times and then I put him in his crib and he refused to give up the book! We sang it again a bunch of times tonight before bed. He can kind of say “muffin man”. I wonder what is so interesting about it!
Cute!
Marie is finishing up her quiet time in her room. I thought I heard her calling me, so I went to the stairs and listened – she is singing O Little Town of Bethlehem with Brian’s singing (and flashing) book. She just came downstairs and said “I sang a Baby Jesus song! And I knew all the words!”
